25 October Tour of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception  - DC

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Roman Catholic church in the United States and North America, and is one of the ten largest churches in the world.  It is the nation’s pre-eminent Marian Shrine, dedicated to the patroness of the United States—the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title of the Immaculate Conception.  Please contact Mike Creegan to RSVP for the event.   This is a link to the flyer for this event.

Volunteers needed for women's shelter

We need more volunteers for mowing the lawn at the Women’s Shelter. Please review the roster under activities and write me at shelter@kofc9259.org  if you can help mow the lawn at the shelter.   We need more volunteers to cover the open slots in the schedule.

Past Grand Knight's Dinner - 27 September

This years Past Grand Knight's Dinner honors PGK Dale Herdegen. 

WHEN:  27 September 2008

TIME:  1830 Hours (630PM) Cocktails, 1900 (7PM) Dinner

WHERE: The Globe and Laurel, 3987 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford, VA

COST:  $30.00 per single, $55.00 per couple

MENU:   The price includes a fresh garden salad, bread, sherbet, and soft drinks to complement the menu choices of:

  • Norwegian Salmon:  Marinated in ginger and garlic and served with a white wine sauce, wild rice and vegetables.

  • Stuffed Chicken Breast: Apple stuffed chicken breast, served with jasmine rice and vegetables.

  • Medallions of Beef Tenderloins: Aged and prepared to perfection, served with tri-color pasta and vegetables.

Parish News - New Kneelers Coming

The parish will be replacing the existing kneelers with new ones.  The dates are yet uncertain, but they will be seeking volunteers from throughout the Parish to install the new ones,  If you are handy with a drill and screwdriver, it's your chance to make a difference, and improve Mass for everyone!

If you have items for the Council Newsletter, please send them to our editor, brother Knight Terry Pavlak.  We are looking for items of interest, Information on upcoming events, recipes, Updates on your children, recipes or any story of interest.

Support to New Immigrants

The US State Department has recently located a family to the Triangle area.  The family is in need of basic yard tools and some one time labor to clear out some problems with the yard. If you have any extra yard tools (they have a plastic rake and a steel rake), or a good used lawnmower, please contact Past Grand Knight Dale Herdegen about how to assist.

Potomac Council was founded in 1986 through the efforts of the founding brother knights and Past Grand Knight Richard G. Fox.  The Potomac Council works closely with the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Triangle, VA, The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal service organization of practicing Catholic gentlemen dedicated to supporting our clergy, church, community and country. The organization is founded on the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.. We offer self-fulfillment through donation of time and talents wherever needed and wholesome fellowship with congenial companions who share the same belief and duty to God. Some specific volunteer opportunities are: food preparation and service at parish breakfasts, collection of funds to support Citizens with disabilities, sale of fireworks, minor construction, activity planning, youth activities, vocations, support of the parish Art Auction, the ACTS Women's Shelter and more.
